From May 2013, the following changes were made to the crime categories:
I) The violent crime category was renamed "violence and sexual offences"
2) A new category for "bicycle theft" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
3) A new category for "theft from the person" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
4) Public disorder and weapons were then split into two new categories; "public order" and "possession of weapons"
5) Both "other firearms offences" and "other knives offences" which were in "other crime" were moved into "possession of weapons".

The beat area of 'Eastleigh Central' comprises of the main shopping precinct in the town including the Swan Centre and Vue cinema complex. The residential roads surrounding the town centre as far South as Derby Road, Campbell Road, the railway yards and East as far as The Hub.



Many of the shops and pubs within the town centre are part of the shop / pub watch initiative. A modern CCTV system covers a large proportion of the town centre. The beat is covered by three police officers and two police community support officers, assisted by special constables and volunteers.



The beat is one of the busiest within the Eastleigh District, with many businesses, residents and visitors, yet still Eastleigh has low crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB). The Safer Neighbourhoods team for this area are passionate about reducing crime and ASB, protecting vulnerable people and targeting those who commit crime.
