From May 2013, the following changes were made to the crime categories:
I) The violent crime category was renamed "violence and sexual offences"
2) A new category for "bicycle theft" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
3) A new category for "theft from the person" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
4) Public disorder and weapons were then split into two new categories; "public order" and "possession of weapons"
5) Both "other firearms offences" and "other knives offences" which were in "other crime" were moved into "possession of weapons".

Newcastle North Sector covers 10 Council Wards in the north and north-west of Newcastle. There are a number of densely populated urban areas, together with more rural areas on the outskirts of the city. Included in the sector is the Area Command Headquarters at Etal Lane, and a number of notable features, including Newcastle International Airport, Newcastle Falcons Rugby, Newcastle Racecourse, Belvedere Retail Park at Kingston Park and a number of golf courses. There are 3 secondary schools in the area; Gosforth Academy, Kenton School and All Saints College. Additionally there are many primary schools which feed into the secondary schools.
