From May 2013, the following changes were made to the crime categories:
I) The violent crime category was renamed "violence and sexual offences"
2) A new category for "bicycle theft" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
3) A new category for "theft from the person" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
4) Public disorder and weapons were then split into two new categories; "public order" and "possession of weapons"
5) Both "other firearms offences" and "other knives offences" which were in "other crime" were moved into "possession of weapons".

Wellswood is a very large beat geographically and not only incorporates the Wellswood "village", but also includes Babbacombe Road, the Lincombes, Warberries, Ilsham Marine Drive and Torwood Street. Torwood Street is predominantly given over to shops and restaurants and has a thriving night-time economy with Pubs and Night Clubs. The Wellswood "village" in Ilsham Road has good quality restaurants and independent shops and has Ilsham Primary School at its heart. Wellswood has two primary schools, Ilsham C of E Academy and Warberry C of E Academy. Wellswood has a higher than average amount of people of a retirement age and has well attended churches at St Matthias and Riviera Life, in Babbacombe Road. There are also large areas of beautiful coastal paths, mainly managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust.
