From May 2013, the following changes were made to the crime categories:
I) The violent crime category was renamed "violence and sexual offences"
2) A new category for "bicycle theft" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
3) A new category for "theft from the person" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
4) Public disorder and weapons were then split into two new categories; "public order" and "possession of weapons"
5) Both "other firearms offences" and "other knives offences" which were in "other crime" were moved into "possession of weapons".

Neighbourhood Team

The Ashburton neighbourhood is a large parish in South Devon centred around the town of Ashburton itself. The parish is home to a population of more than 4,000 residing in about 1,700 households.

The parishes of Widecombe and Bickington are also covered by the Neighbourhood Team making the total area covered to be somewhere in the region of 200 sq miles.

PC Dudley works from Ashburton police station where he is supervised by Sergeant Cayless.

The Ashburton area is a very safe place to live, where reported crime over the past 12 months has fallen by around 20 per cent.

The Neighbourhood Team is committed to focusing on community concerns and during the last 12 months we have successfully targeted those responsible for anti-social behaviour and will continue to do so.
