From May 2013, the following changes were made to the crime categories:
I) The violent crime category was renamed "violence and sexual offences"
2) A new category for "bicycle theft" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
3) A new category for "theft from the person" was created which previously fell within "other theft"
4) Public disorder and weapons were then split into two new categories; "public order" and "possession of weapons"
5) Both "other firearms offences" and "other knives offences" which were in "other crime" were moved into "possession of weapons".

This Safer Neighbourhood area covers Codnor, Waingroves and Langley Mill. It belongs to the Amber Valley policing section.



Codnor and Waingroves are situated between the market towns of Ripley and Heanor. They are former mining communities which are in a semi-rural location. Both the villages have grown in recent years through new housing; the population is now approximately 5000.



Langley Mill has close social and economic links with Eastwood that lies less than a mile away over the county border in Nottinghamshire. It has good communication links with a railway station and road links to Nottingham and the M1.
